Reporter Blues

I’ve never had much respect for journalists. That is partly why I entered the field. I wanted to make a difference.

It’s just too late.

Now, as a newspaper reporter in a medium market in the great State of Texas, I see that it is just not going to happen. The profession is wrought with ideologues and idiots. Yesterday, I had the unfortunate experience of interviewing the chair of the Democratic Party for the county I cover. It was a pitiful and painful hour, with my managing editor sitting there and laughing and joking with this dunce about how the “Bush Administration is destroying America”. The man obviously spends a lot of time on left wing smear sites and absolutely no time listening or reading about mainstream conservative thought. And imagine my surprise when he went off on the electronic voting machines (which I am not in favor of, by the way), blaming all voting problems on the Republican Party and basically calling all Republicans crooks and liars. I challenged him many times as my editor sat, stunned by my apparent lack of obedient agreement with the man. But, there was just too much propagandizing in the room. I excused myself and went back to work.

This guy is the chairman of the once great Democratic Party and it is just sad. He is either lying through his teeth or is totally blinded by ideology. I’m not sure which is worse.
